Reigning Premier League champions Chelsea on Saturday, August 12, 2017 began the defense of their title on a disastrous note after losing 2-3 to Burnley in-front of their faithfuls. No one would believe that Burnley would provide such an astonishing performance at Stamford Bridge as many Chelsea fans left the Stadium livid. But the trouble began for the Blues when Gary Cahill was red carded after committing a rough foul on Steven Defour in which the referee had no choice than to send him out.

Burnley however changed their tactics after Cahillwas sent off and it paid off in the 24th minutes when Sam Vokes netted the first goal after a wonderful cross from Mathew Lowton.Frenchman N'Golo Kante had a chance to equalize for the Blues in the 29th minutes after being wonderfully set up by former Arsenal captainCesc Fabregas, but he was unable to beat Burnley goalie Heaton.

Stephen Ward scored the second goal for Watford in the 39th minutes before Sam Vokes netted his second goal of the match in the 43rd minutes as both side went to the break with the visitors leading. Spanish international Alvaro Morata came from the bench to score the first goal for the Blues in the 69th minutes before David Luiz netted at the death as the match ended 3-2 in favor of Burnley.
