5 feared dead, several injured in road accident in Nnewi

Over 30 persons are now receiving treatment at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi while 5 person were feared dead following a ghastly motor accident that occurred in the town yesterday.The accident was said to have occurred when a vehicle ran into a shop along old Onitsha Road, Nnewi popularlycalled Electronics Market at about 11: 25 am yesterday.According to sources ,the vehicle with theinscription ‘Ex servicemen’ on its back and ‘Akbou ‘on its sides ran with a high speed ,knocking down passersby,motorcycles and goods displayed along the road before it jumped into the shop beside LG Show Room at No.36, Onitsha Road, Nnewi where it further damaged more wares.Eyewitness said many people were injured while one unidentified okada operator was crushed among 4 persons feared dead.When Daily Champion reached the scene of the incident passersby were seen in groups discussing the accident. A badly damaged motorcycle said to belong to one of the okada operators involved in the accident was seen along the road while pieces of glass, were seenscattered along the road.The injured persons and the alleged dead were said to have been taken to the hospital.Pastor Cliff, the chairman of the Electrical/Electronics Market confirmed the story saying that the number of materials damaged had not been ascertained at the time of this report evenas he dismissed fear that some people lost their lives in the incident.When contacted the Anambra State Commander of the FRSC, Mr Sunday Ajayi said the command was not aware of the incident. He, however warned motorists to exercise caution while driving.
